An Intermatic pool timer tells your pool pump when to turn on and when to turn off. This both conserves energy and allows you to avoid turning the pump on and off manually. After you've installed an Intermatic pool timer, you might have questions about how to operate it.

The functions of an Intermatic timer are basic and therefore easy to work. Before adjusting other settings on the timer, set the current time. If the time isn't set correctly, the "On" and "Off" times won't occur as desired. Grasp the clock dial, which is yellow on some models, and pull it out slightly. Turn the dial until the correct time lines up with the "Time" arrow in front of the dial. The dial is divided into 24 hours that are labeled "PM" and "AM."

The "On" and "Off" trippers tell the pump to turn on and off when the desired time is reached. The trippers are metal arrows located on the outside of the clock dial. After the clock time is set, unscrew the trippers to move them. Adjust the trippers to the desired on and off times and screw them down. The black tripper is the "Off" tripper and the lighter tripper is the "On" tripper. The clock dial turns continuously and when the desired "On" time aligns with the "Time" lever, the pump turns on. When the desired "Off" time reaches the "Time" lever, the pool pump turns off.

Below the clock dial is a manual "On/Off" switch. Move this lever to the side to activate the pump manually. Flip the lever back into place, when you wish to turn the pump off. The planned schedule is still in effect after the manual lever has been utilized.

In case of a power failure or power surge, which might trip the pool timer breaker, simply reset the clock dial to the current time after resetting the breaker switch. Adjust the "On" and "Off" trippers as necessary.
