If you want to keep your house cool without the expense and trouble of installing central air conditioning, don't worry -- you can lower the temperature inside without snaking ductwork throughout your home. Americans kept their homes cool for hundreds of years before the advent of central air, and they did it by simply manipulating the air inside -- and outside -- their walls.
